Be Brave
What started out as the pursuit of a dream is quickly becoming a reality for the members of Denver-based modern rock band Be Brave. In less than six months, Be Brave has gone from non-existence to being one of the fastest up-and-coming bands in all of Colorado, with sold out shows, die-hard fans, and a solid music catalogue. Their debut EP, "Pursue the Dream," tells the story of how five guys from different paths and musical backgrounds ended up playing music that speaks to people from all walks of life.
After working their way through the Denver music scene, Michael Payne, Brett Marcovich and Matt Neiberger—former members of hardcore band Defending the Pilot—decided to branch out and take their music in a different direction. They began collaborating in the studio with In Audika front man Evan Bell, who introduced guitarist Tommy Trent to the mix. The group clicked immediately on a personal and musical level and Be Brave was born.
"We're more than just a group of friends who play music," says bassist Brett Marcovich. "We're a 'bamily'—a band and a family. We're the same kid in five different bodies."
That 'bamily' played their first show at the Summit Music Hall on May 8, 2011, with the crowd chanting "Be Brave" before they even reached the stage. In less then three short months after the band was formed, they've had a whirlwind of shows around the state, promotional meetings, staying on top of their growing social networks to communicate with fans, and recording "Pursue the Dream," due out on July 29.
Be Brave was also recently selected out of thousands of bands across the United States to participate in the 2012 Indie Music Festival in Las Vegas. The event promoters personally called up the band to say how impressive their music was and that they had earned the first spot in the entire festival. In every capacity, Be Brave has been told over and over how much their sound stands out in a saturated market, how radio-friendly and catchy their songs are, and how energetic and emotional their stage presence is.
"We want to say we're doing more than just playing shows," says Tommy Trent. "We want to go everywhere and reach everyone." Adds guitarist Michael Payne; "We want as many people as we can to know Be Brave and actually like our music."
Everything that led to Michael, Brett, Matt, Evan, and Tommy joining forces has created a rock quintet with the determination and perseverance to succeed. For the band, Be Brave is more than just a name. It's a way of life: standing up for what you believe in, taking chances, and pursuing the dream.
